Project application for Bianca

To use an UPPMAX cluster, one needs to apply to a project.

This page describes how to apply to a Bianca/Sens project.

Pre-preparations, read this first

Procedure for project application

1. Go to https://supr.naiss.se/

2. Click on 'Rounds'

3. Click on 'NAISS rounds'

In the 'Rounds' menu, click on 'NAISS rounds'

4. Click 'Go to NAISS Small/Medium' for the current year

In the 'NAISS Rounds' screen, click 'Go to NAISS Small' or 'Go to NAISS Medium" for the current year, depending on the Size of the project.

In the 'NAISS Rounds' screen, scroll down and click 'Create New Proposal for NAISS Small/Medium Small' for the current year.

5. Click 'Create New Proposal for NAISS Small/Medium 2026'

In the 'Open for Proposals' screen you can view which resources are available (and also click for details) but to create a new proposal click 'Create New Proposal for NAISS Small/Medium 2026'.

6. Add a project title and click 'Create new proposal'

A NAISS project

So far it is an ordinary NAISS project, no resource coupled to sensitive projects is yet chosen.

Tips

  1. Project Title should be the topic of your activity.

  2. Edit Basic Information.

    • Abstract should summarise your research plan
    • Resource usage should summarise the compute and storage resources your project will need. Describe the software you will use and how you will use it.
    • Data management plan should contain an abbreviated data management plan. Answer the questions included in the instructions. If you have an online DMP, you may link to it.
    • Sensitive data handling When you add Bianca resources (in step 5), you have to complete this field.

  3. Add co-investigators (if any).

  4. If someone other than the PI needs control over the project, assign a co-investigator the role of proxy.

7. Scroll down and add the resource 'Bianca'

In your NAISS project, scroll down to 'Resources' and add Bianca.

In your UPPMAX local compute project, scroll down to 'Resources' and add Bianca

Click on 'Add resource to proposal' to add Bianca as a resource.

8. Edit compute resources

In the 'Add resource Bianca' menu, set the number of thousands of core hours/month and click 'Add resource'.

9. Click on 'Storage Choice'

In the 'Add resource Bianca' menu, click 'Storage choice'.

You can see the default numbers for the backup and non-backup partitions of the storage.

You can now choose between

  • request default storage
  • request more than default storage
  • done with storage stage

Tip

  • Add the Cygnus /proj resource and set the Requested Capacity to your amount of raw data. You may ignore the other fields.
  • Add the Cygnus /proj/nobackup resource and set the Requested Capacity to your estimated total minus your raw data. You may ignore the other fields.

10. Want to change your numbers?

You can go back and change your choices. In your NAISS project, scroll down to 'Resources' section to revisit the resources.

11. Submit your proposal

Press the "Submit the Proposal" button on the bottom of the page.
